How inspections work

What this does

An inspection is a checklist against a vehicle: items grouped by category, each rated Good, Fair, Poor, or Critical, with notes and photos. It's attached to a customer and vehicle and usually to the work order the car is in on. The customer can see it through a share link with the photos, which is what turns a "your brakes are low" into an approved job.

Statuses

In Progress — the technician is filling it in. Completed — the technician is done. Sent — it has been shared with the customer.

Separately, the writer marks a completed inspection reviewed from the writer dashboard once they've looked at the findings and decided what to quote. Until then it sits in the writer's Inspection queue.

Who does what

Technicians (both tiers) create and fill inspections. Service Writers, Service Managers, and General Managers review them. Office Managers can view.

Templates

Settings → Inspections holds templates. A new shop can seed the Standard Multi-Point Inspection: Brakes, Tires & Wheels, Under Hood, Under Vehicle, Exterior, Interior. Loading a template onto an inspection adds all its items at once. See Inspection templates.

Common problems

The customer can't see the photos. Photos are on the share view; make sure the link they have is the inspection's, not the estimate's.

Two inspections on the same job. Each is separate. Delete the empty one; the one with items stays.
