Inspection templates

What this does

A template is a saved checklist: named items in categories that load onto a new inspection in one click. Templates make inspections consistent across technicians and fast enough that they get done.

Before you start

settings.inspections: Owner, General Manager, Service Manager.

Steps

  1. Settings → Inspections.
  2. On an empty shop, seed the Standard Multi-Point Inspection. It creates six categories, Brakes, Tires & Wheels, Under Hood, Under Vehicle, Exterior, and Interior, each with the usual items. Edit from there rather than starting blank.
  3. To build your own, create a template with a name, then add items: Item Name and Category. Order matters; it's the order the technician sees.
  4. Edit or remove items any time. Changes apply to inspections created afterwards; inspections already loaded keep their items.
  5. Delete a template you no longer use. Existing inspections aren't affected.

Tips

Keep one general template and one or two specialised ones (pre-purchase, state inspection, seasonal). More than that and technicians stop choosing.

Name items the way they'll read on the customer's copy: "Front brake pad thickness," not "FBP."

Common problems

The seed option isn't there. The shop already has a template. Seeding is only offered on an empty shop; add items to what you have.

Technicians say the template doesn't load. They're picking it on an inspection that already has items. Load onto a fresh inspection, or add the missing items by hand.
