Vehicle lookup (plate recognition)

What this does

With a Plate Recognizer key on Settings → Integrations → Vehicle Lookup APIs, a photo of a plate can be read into the plate number when adding a vehicle, and the plate looked up to fill year, make, model, and VIN. VIN decoding itself uses a public service and needs no key.

Before you start

settings.integrations. A Plate Recognizer account and its API token.

Steps

Paste the token and use the check button: "Plate Recognizer key is valid" means you're set; "Invalid Plate Recognizer API key" or "Could not reach Plate Recognizer API" mean the token or the network. Save.

Common problems

The plate reads wrong. Retake the photo straight on and closer. The service returns its best guess; check it before saving the vehicle.

A second lookup key used to be here. The older plate-to-VIN service was retired; only Plate Recognizer is offered now.
