What this does

The Job Costing panel on a work order shows what the job sells for, what the parts cost you, and the gross margin, with a per-line table linking each costed part to the vendor bill or document the cost came from. It is read-only and computes nothing itself; the numbers come from the same source the accounting reports use.

Reading it

Revenue is the selling total of the lines. Parts Cost is the sum of costs on part lines that have a cost recorded. Gross Margin is the difference, shown as an amount and a percentage. Labor cost is not included; this is a parts margin.

If any part line has no cost yet, the panel says so and marks the margin provisional. A provisional margin is too high, not too low.

Getting parts costed

A part gets its cost from the vendor bill or supplier document it was received on. Parts pulled from inventory carry the inventory cost. Parts added by hand with no source have no cost until one is attached. Reconcile costs on the work order lists the uncosted lines so you can source them.

Common problems

Margin is 100%. No part on the job has a cost. Source the parts.

The panel is empty. The job has no lines yet, or the costing data hasn't been computed for it. Add lines and reload.
