What this does

Money In → Discount Codes defines codes a customer can give at the counter ("SPRING10"). A code has a value, a scope, and rules; applying it adds a discount line to the estimate or invoice and records the use against the customer.

Steps

  1. Basics: Code (what the customer says), Name, Description.
  2. Discount: Type (a percentage of the eligible amount) and the value. Scope: all lines, or a category (labor only, parts only).
  3. Validity: Start Date, optional End Date.
  4. Rules: Min Purchase, Max Total Uses, Max Per Customer.
  5. Save and keep it active. Usage History shows every application. Toggle inactive to retire it; delete only if never used.

What happens in the books

A discount is a negative line and reduces revenue at issue; it doesn't post separately.

Common problems

"Code not valid." Expired, inactive, below the minimum purchase, or this customer has used it the maximum times.

The discount applied to parts and it was labor-only. The scope was "all". Fix the code; remove and re-apply on the document.
