QuickBooks import
Updated September 23, 2026
What this does
Settings → Import QuickBooks is a wizard for the accounting side of a QuickBooks migration: Chart of Accounts, then Vendors, then Customers, then Journal Entries, each from a CSV export. It recognizes the column layouts of QuickBooks Desktop (Windows and Mac) and QuickBooks Online and maps account types to the app's.
Before you start
settings.import. Export each list from QuickBooks as CSV (IIF also parses). Do accounts first: everything else refers to them, and the wizard won't let you skip ahead ("Import accounts first"). Decide whether you're bringing history or starting fresh; journal entries are optional and a large import.
Steps
For each of the four: upload the export, check the detected format and column mapping (— not mapped — for anything you don't want), review the preview, import. Accounts are created with the QuickBooks number and name; types are translated (Bank → asset, Accounts Payable → liability, and so on). Vendors and customers land in their lists. Journal entries post as manual entries dated as in QuickBooks, against the imported accounts.
Common problems
An account type came through wrong. Fix it under Chart of Accounts before importing journal entries.
Journal entries won't import: unknown account. An entry references an account that wasn't in the accounts export (inactive accounts are excluded by default in QuickBooks). Export with inactive included, import accounts again, retry.
I only want the chart. Stop after step one; nothing forces the rest.
