What this does

Gets a receipt, bill, or any paper into the app so the extractor can read it. PDF, PNG, JPG, and HEIC are accepted.

Steps

One or a few. On Documents, drop files onto Drop files here or click to select, or use Select Files. Each becomes a document in Inbox. Choose Process with AI to read them now; otherwise the scheduled run picks them up within a few minutes.

A stack. Documents → Batch Upload takes a folder's worth at once and creates them as one batch, so you can find them together afterwards. Wait for Upload Complete before leaving the page.

From a phone. The iOS app scans straight into the same queue with source ios. Photograph the receipt flat, in good light; the extractor reads printed text well and handwriting poorly.

Default document type. Under Documents → Settings, set a Default Document Type if most of what you upload is one kind (receipts, say); leave it on Auto-detect otherwise.

What the extractor reads

Vendor, date, total, tax, line items, payment method if printed, and any handwritten note it can make out. Handwritten notes become flags in the Exceptions queue (a "return" written on a receipt, a check number, an instruction); see Exceptions.

Common problems

"Upload failed unexpectedly." Usually file size or a format that isn't one of the four. Convert and retry.

The document read the wrong total. Fix it on the review screen before filing; your correction is kept and used to improve future reads.

I uploaded the same receipt twice. Dismiss one as a duplicate from its page. The duplicate gate will also stop it from filing twice.
